Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has commended his United States counterpart, Joe Biden, for taking “bold steps” in supporting his country.
In a post via his X handle on Monday, Zelensky praised the US president’s “tough but strong decision” to end his reelection bid.
“The current situation in Ukraine and all of Europe is no less challenging, and we sincerely hope that America’s continued strong leadership will prevent Russian evil from succeeding or making its aggression pay off,” he wrote.
Biden’s decision to pull out of the United States presidential race as Democratic nominee has sent shock waves through the political world.
In a statement on his X handle on Sunday, Biden said, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Shortly after, the president declared his support for Vice President Kamala Harris to take on the bid.
Biden’s withdrawal leaves the Democrats in an unprecedented position until the November election.
