Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been named the new governor of Zamfara State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Early on Tuesday, the winner was declared to be Lawal in Gusau, the state capital.
He received 377,726 votes overall, defeating Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who received 311,976 votes, according to INEC.
The announcement coincided with some minor drama surrounding the presentation of the Maradun Local Government Area, LGA, results.
Recall that Ahmed Kainuwa, the LGA's collection officer for the Maradun Local Government Area, was reported to have been shot on Monday.
Kainuwa later reappeared, nevertheless, at the INEC headquarters at Gusau's state collation center.
