Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for ordering the suspension of the 0.5% cybersecurity levy.
RocketParrot reported on Tuesday that the president gave the directive during the marathon FEC meeting.
Edochie, a loyal supporter of the president, took to his social media to celebrate the development.
He wrote in a post on his official X page: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man who listens to his people, I’m honored to stand by him. Through thick and thin, I am #Asiwaju Boy.”
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had on May 6 mandated banks, mobile money operators, and payment service providers to implement the levy as contained in the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) (Amendment) Act 2024.
With the development, all electronic transactions were expected to attract a levy of 0.5 percent. The money was to be remitted to the National Cybersecurity Fund overseen by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
