The South African men's senior national team arrived in Uyo on Thursday morning ahead of Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
The Bafana Bafana touched down at the Victor Obong Attah airport at about 10:45 am and have since proceeded to the Four Point Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene, where they will be lodged for the encounter.
The South Africans came in with a 41-man delegation consisting of 23 players and 18 officials aboard a chartered aircraft.
Our correspondent learnt that the South African team were delayed for four hours at the airport on Wednesday.
"We left the hotel at 6:30am yesterday (Wednesday) for a 9am flight - we were delayed for four hours, and that had a ripple effect on the day," Bafana Bafana media officer Romy Titus revealed.
"This morning on Thursday, we left Port Harcourt at 10am local time, it was a 20 minute flight and about a 50 minute bus trip to hotel - and we have just walked in the doors at our hotel."
The Bafana Bafana team will have their first and only training session on Thursday evening from 8pm at the Godswill Akpabio stadium ahead of Friday’s encounter.
The Super Eagles currently trail their rivals, South Africa, by two points and need to win to get back in contention to qualify for the World Cup.
Friday’s game at the Godswill Akpabio stadium will kick off at 8pm.
