The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy Ohaneye, has announced that women are set to lead the export of 13 million tonnes of processed fish by 2025 with the aim of creating wealth and job opportunities.
During a visit to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the minister emphasised the need to empower women for economic independence, stating that they are not beggars.
She also mentioned plans to provide financial support to women by disbursing N50,000 and N25,000 for six months and three months respectively, in order to alleviate economic hardships.
Additionally, Kennedy-Ohaneye revealed that 1,000 POS machines would be distributed to women in Bauchi to offer them support.
Furthermore, the minister appealed to the governor for the establishment of a mobile court, rehabilitation centre, as well as surgical and referral facilities specifically for women in the state.
