The Plateau State Government has received trauma kits from the World Health Organization to help victims of attacks on Christmas Eve that occurred in the three local government areas of the state.
Musa Mahdi, the WHO Coordinator for the Plateau, who delivered the kits on Tuesday in Jos, said that the act was consistent with the organization's mission to assist the government in addressing the humanitarian crisis.
It was alleged that on Christmas Eve, gunmen assaulted 25 towns spread over three local government areas in Plateau State, killing around 150 people.
Millions of naira worth of property were destroyed in the attacks that hit the LGs of Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu.
Mahdi said that the kits contained commodities that could be used to meet the health needs of the displaced persons in the state.
“This trauma kits have over 60 pieces of equipment in each of them that can be used to conduct over 200 procedures and attend to over 100 people with severe injuries.
After accepting the supplies, Dr. Cletus Shirkuk, the Plateau's Commissioner of Health, thanked WHO for the kindness and assured that the supplies would be used well.
He urged organizations and people to help the government provide for the displaced people's humanitarian needs.
