Who Delivers Gaza Health Supplies In Egypt

POSTED ON October 14, 2023 •   World      BY Segun Adewole •   VIEWS 70
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced on Saturday that it has transported enough basic health supplies to support 300,000 people in the besieged Gaza Strip. These essential medical provisions have been airlifted to an Egyptian airport near the Palestinian enclave, with the intention of immediately dispatching them once humanitarian access is granted through the Rafah border crossing from Egypt into southern Gaza. A plane carrying 78 cubic meters of health supplies, sourced from the UN health agency's logistics hub in Dubai, has landed at El Arish airport. The WHO emphasized that these supplies are intended to meet the needs of 300,000 individuals, with a particular focus on pregnant women. The urgency of the situation was underscored in a WHO statement, which noted that for every hour these life-saving supplies remain on the Egyptian side of the border, lives are at risk. It emphasized that vulnerable individuals, including children, women, and the disabled, could lose their lives while the necessary medical resources are located just 20 kilometers away. The Rafah border crossing, which serves as the sole point of entry and exit for the Gaza Strip not under Israeli control, has been closed since a series of Israeli strikes severely damaged the terminal on the Palestinian side earlier in the week. The WHO's medical supplies include medications for the treatment of wounded patients and individuals suffering from heart diseases, hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory problems. The shipment also includes trauma pouches to stabilize and provide immediate, life-saving care to injured individuals. The WHO has called for the immediate opening of a humanitarian corridor through Rafah to ensure the delivery of essential items such as food, fuel, water, and other survival necessities. With the critically injured, the sick, and the vulnerable in urgent need, the WHO's plea for swift humanitarian access remains a lifeline for those in Gaza. In a collaborative effort, various countries have sent humanitarian aid to the El Arish airport in support of Gaza, including Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey, reflecting the international community's commitment to alleviating the dire situation in the region.
