The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, strongly condemned the "effective destruction" of the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza on Sunday. In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Tedros expressed his dismay over the incident, revealing that at least eight patients, including a 9-year-old child, had lost their lives.
The Israeli army, following a multi-day operation, withdrew from the hospital, alleging its use as a command and control center by Hamas, a claim vehemently denied by the Palestinian group.
Tedros, in his social media post, conveyed the WHO's appall at the hospital's destruction, rendering it non-functional and resulting in the tragic loss of lives. The statement also highlighted the reported detention of numerous health workers during the Israeli army's operation.
"Many health workers were reportedly detained, and WHO and partners are urgently seeking information on their status," Tedros added, emphasizing the need for clarity on the well-being and whereabouts of the healthcare personnel affected by the events.
