The technical manager of Rivers United, Finidi George, has voiced his disappointment following Saturday's 1-0 loss to Enyimba.
When asked for his thoughts on the defeat in Aba, he highlighted his pride in the team’s performance despite the outcome.
“It was a commendable match. I believe that prior to their scoring from a free kick, we had a clear one-on-one chance which we failed to take advantage of. That could have altered the game. However, after that instance, they were given a free kick, which I view as questionable.
“I felt that the initial free kick should have been ours (Rivers United), but the referee overlooked it. Later, he awarded the free kick to Enyimba, and they had Obot, who has been performing exceptionally on set pieces recently. We must acknowledge him for executing a great free kick.
“Following that point, I think we really pushed ourselves. In the second half, we made several adjustments to try to sway the match in our favor. Even though we ended up losing, I am quite satisfied with how the team played. It’s been a long time since we have performed this well.
Today, I want to commend the players for their hard work, but unfortunately, we’re leaving without any points.”
When asked about his return to Aba, Finidi remarked, “You can sense the affection and gratitude from the fans. After spending three years with Enyimba, I am now here with a different club, yet the warmth and backing from the fans remain clear. I am grateful for that.”
Looking ahead to the team's next match in Uyo on Wednesday, George conveyed his optimism. “I believe that if we maintain this level of play, victory is within our reach. Therefore, I am quite hopeful. If we can deliver the same performance in Uyo, I am confident we will either win or at least earn something from the match. I’m feeling quite positive.”
