The Southeast could be closed down for two weeks, according to well-known pro-Biafra agitator and separatist Simon Ekpa, if local governors refuse to obtain the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader.
The warning follows President Muhammadu Buhari's defiance of court orders calling for Kanu's release, said Ekpa.
Ekpa, a Finnish lawyer, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement on his Twitter handle.
It has remained unknown where Kanu is, he claimed, which is extremely concerning.
"If the eastern area governors of the Nigerian government fails to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or provide an update on his whereabouts, Biafran territory may enter a two-week lockdown.
“This has become imperative as nobody knows the whereabouts of MNK after he was discharged. After two weeks of lockdown and nothing, we will activate the next strategy that has never been observed”, he wrote.
Kanu was detained after being re-arrested by Interpol in June 2021 and handed over to Nigeria; this is the case even though there have been requests for his release.
A week ago, Kanu's attorney Aloy Ejimakor claimed that the separatist's health was getting worse.
