The West African Senior School Certificate Examination has officially registered a total of 8,285 candidates for the maiden edition of their Computer Based Test.
The Head of National Office for the West African Certificate Examination (WAEC) in Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, made the announcement on Monday for the Computer Based-West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates in 2024.
Dangut had disclosed the details on the upcoming examination, and stated that the schedule is to take place from Wednesday, January 31, to Saturday, February 17, 2024, at various locations across Nigeria.
The council had revealed the decision to conduct the CB-WASSCE for private candidates in a press release in November 2023. Dangut addressed the initial resistance to this innovation, stating, "This only served as fuel for the council to forge ahead on its course to conduct the CB-WASSCE."
Encouragingly, he noted, "As of today, Monday, January 29, 2024, a total of 8,285 candidates from across the federation have registered for the examination.
With 3,949 of them being male, representing 47.66%, while 4,336 are female, representing 52.3% of the total candidature."
Dangut provided insights into the examination structure, explaining that the assessment would be in 19 subjects, comprising of 26 papers in a hybrid mode. Objective or multiple-choice questions will be displayed on-screen, with candidates required to provide their responses digitally.
He urged candidates to visit WAEC’s e-learning portal for materials that elucidate the requirements for the conduct of the CB-WASSCE. Dangut affirmed the council's commitment to collaborate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of a credible examination to Nigerian students and the public.
