Erling Haaland, Manchester City no. 9, received a guard of honor from his teammates after setting a new record for most goals scored in a single Premier League season.
By successfully finishing over Lukasz Fabianski to make it 2-0 against West Ham, the Norwegian broke the single-season scoring record with his 35th goal of the campaign, surpassing both Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer in the process.
Haaland received a standing ovation from the whole Etihad Stadium crowd before leaving the field following the 3-1 victory over the Hammers, and his teammates formed a guard of honor for him.
Haaland expressed his delight in his accomplishment to Sky Sports after the game, calling it a "special night."
He remarked, "Special night, and a special moment." I'm quite happy and proud. Of course, I was aware of that, but we made an effort to create scoring opportunities. The first half was a little difficult, but the second half saw goals from Ake and me, giving us a crucial victory.
Haaland moved even closer to Dixie Dean's seemingly unbreakable record of 65 goals in the 1927–28 season with his 51st goal of the year. No English player has ever come close to matching the accomplishment or even beating it.
Haaland said, "I don't think of this, I sleep tonight and then I think about three points against Leeds." "I'm going to play some video games at home now"
