After scoring the game-winning goal in Napoli's 1-0 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday, Nigeria Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, established the record for the best scoring African player in Italian Serie A history.
The 24-year-old continued his heroics against Fiorentina at the Diego Maradona Stadium where his club was celebrating winning the Serie A championship after leading Napoli to its first trophy in 33 years.
Osimhen's historic goal, his 47th in the Italian league, was scored from the penalty spot in the 74th minute.
In order to break George Weah's record of 46 goals, which stood since 1999, he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, sending the Napoli crowd into frenzy.
Prior to that, the ex-Lille forward missed a penalty kick that would have given Napoli the lead.
Osimhen has now scored 23 league goals this year, putting him in a strong position to break the league's all-time goal scoring record.
