Uruguay Defeat Brazil 2-0 In Fifa World Cup Qualifier

POSTED ON October 18, 2023 •   Football      BY Lawrence Omoge •   VIEWS 281

Uruguay stunned Brazil 2-0 in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday, thanks to a goal and an assist from Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

Uruguay vs Brazil ended in Uruguay's 2-0 victory over Brazil. With Neymar going down with an injury, the game certainly had its share of tension. Brazil are heavy favorites to win next year's World Cup in Qatar, so the result was a huge shock.

Uruguay vs Brazil

In the 42nd minute, Uruguay's Darwin Nunez scored the game's first goal with the team's first shot on goal. In the 77th minute, Nicolas de la Cruz doubled the home team's advantage with a close-range shot after Nunez won a duel against two Brazilian defenders inside the area. In a very surprising event, Brazil ended the match with no shots on target and suffered their first defeat in a World Cup qualifier since 2015.

Selecao suffer first World Cup Qualifying defeat since 2015

This was Brazil's first qualification World Cup loss since 2015. The Selecao had never lost a qualifying match before, and they were heavily favored to win against Uruguay. Brazil, on the other hand, was simply outplayed by the Celeste. They were unable to generate many opportunities and paid dearly for their errors. With this win, Uruguay moved up to second place in the CONMEBOL standings, tied with Brazil and Venezuela after they also won 3-0 against Chile earlier on Tuesday. Argentina is now in first place in CONMEBOL after a 2-0 victory over Peru.

During the match, Neymar was injured, according to Reuters. After suffering an injury during the game, the Brazilian forward had to leave the field.

It is unknown how long he will be out of action or how severe his injury is.
