UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned all attacks on UN personnel and called for a full investigation.
“Over 190 UN staff have been killed in Gaza since the conflict began, ” said Guterres, in response to another of its staff killed and another injured while en route to a hospital in southern Gaza on Monday night.
The workers were travelling in a UN vehicle to the European Hospital near Rafah when it was struck.
The Israeli military stated that an initial inquiry indicated the vehicle was hit in an active combat zone, and they were unaware of its route.
The incident is currently under review by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)
Guterres expressed deep sadness over the death and extended condolences to their family.
