A UK-bound airplane crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad airport in India, resulting in one survivor and 290 confirmed fatalities.
The sole survivor, 40-year-old Vishwash Ramesh, a British national on his way home, is currently hospitalized.
Prior to the crash, the aircraft carried 242 individuals, including 232 passengers and 12 crew members, which comprised 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian.
The plane reportedly struck a doctors' hostel shortly after takeoff, leading to considerable smoke and injuries. Eyewitnesses reported a loud noise that prompted unrest and calls to airport authorities.
The Boeing 787 took off from Ahmedabad at approximately 1:39 PM on Thursday, piloted by Sumeet Sabharwal, a line training captain with 8,200 flight hours, and First Officer Clive Kundar, who had 1,100 hours logged.
Ramesh recounted, “When I woke up, there were bodies all around me. I was terrified. I stood up and ran.”
