UK Aviation Raise Concerns Over Air Peace Safety Violations

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has expressed worries about safety violations by Nigerian airline, Air Peace.

This comes after the UK authority wrote to Nigeria's Civil Aviation Authority, citing reports of Air Peace breaching aviation safety rules.

This concern arises just three months after Air Peace started operating the Lagos-London route, sparking a competition over ticket prices among airlines.

Two mandatory incident reports regarding Air Peace were reportedly sent to the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority. The UK CAA then forwarded the complaints to the NCAA.

The CAA’s complaint letter forwarded to NCAA was titled "United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report" with reference number CAA-UK-2024-0217 and "NATS Management System Safety Report." The NCAA has also sent a letter to Air Peace to request clarification on the issues.

The letter, with reference number NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, was titled "United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report," dated May 14, 2024, and signed by the NCAA General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani.

In the letter, the NCAA mentioned that the UK CAA had brought to their attention the lack of operational approval of Electronic Flight Bag functions affecting the safe operation of the aircraft.

The flight captain admitted to using an Electronic Flight Bag for navigational purposes. Additionally, the CAA stated in its letter that there was no mounting device for the use of EFB, no charging points, or battery for backup. Meanwhile, Air Peace has not yet responded to the development at the time of filing this report.

On April 25, Air Peace began operations at London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, under Nigeria’s Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the UK.
