Uefa To Co-Organize Ballon D'or From 2024

POSTED ON November 3, 2023 •   Football      BY Lawrence Omoge

UEFA has announced that it will co-organize the Ballon d'Or with French media company Groupe Amaury from 2024.

France Football is the organization that has, in the past, been responsible for presenting this illustrious award. The award is given on a yearly basis to the men's and women's players who are considered to be the best in the world. https://twitter.com/brfootball/status/1720397700745646407?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1720397700745646407%7Ctwgr%5E8dfe03222203b880e2feb94d97efa2d6a654adf2%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublish.twitter.com%2F%3Fquery%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2Fbrfootball2Fstatus2F1720397700745646407widget%3DTweet   Here are the key points about the changes to the Ballon d'Or:

Co-Organizers of the Ballon d'Or

UEFA has agreed to terms with Groupe Amaury, the company that owns both France Football and L'Equipe. The French resource will keep its ownership of the Ballon d'Or brand and will continue to manage an "unchanged and independent" voting procedure in accordance with the terms of this deal. UEFA will contribute its expertise in football, market the global commercial rights, and host the yearly awards ceremony.

New awards addition

The Ballon d'Or isn't the only award UEFA and Groupe Amaury plan to give out starting next year; they also plan to give out separate prizes for the best men's and women's coaches. If so, the last player to have won the Men's Player of the Year would be Manchester City's forward, Erling Haaland (2022/23) With the elimination of the UEFA Player of the Year awards, the Ballon d'Or will take its rightful place as the sport's most prestigious individual award.

FIFA's response to the new development

Since 2016, FIFA has hosted their own Best Awards ceremony, and many perceive UEFA's decision to co-organize the Ballon d'Or as a direct challenge to those awards. The Ballon d'Or has always been considered more prestigious than FIFA's own world awards, and with UEFA's participation, the event stands to gain even more notoriety around the world.
