Nigerian talent manager, Ubi Franklin has offered his thoughts on the present situation of the music industry, emphasizing both the problems and opportunities that await.
In a recent social media post, Ubi Franklin mused on the internet's impact on the music industry, stating that the industry has reached a tipping point.
While conceding that the internet has caused substantial changes, Ubi Franklin remains optimistic about the music industry's future.
He sees the internet and social networking as critical outlets for the emergence of new talent, citing popular artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burnaboy who have used these channels to their advantage.
He wrote: “We are at a crossroads in the music business: with the rise of the internet, the world we live in has changed, and the past is not coming back. But I see the glass as half-full: the internet and social networking are new avenues for the next Davido, Iyanya, Burnaboy, Wizkid, Asake, rema, Ayra Star Tems Etc to be born on.”
Ubi Franklin is a proud Nigerian music artist manager, politician, entrepreneur, TV program host, and the owner of the record labels Made Men Music Group (Triple MG) and Instant Apartment. Franklin is currently the Special Adviser to Cross River State Governor Benedict Ayade on Tourism.
Franklin served as Julius Agwu's assistant before moving on to work with AY Makun and other artists. He then began advertising performances. He took over as Iyanya's manager in 2010, just before the hit single "kukere" was released. When the label expanded in 2014, it signed more musicians, including Tekno, Emma Nyra, and Selebobo.
Franklin won the Music Manager of the Year award at the City People Music Awards in 2016. In July 2017, he established Instant Pickup, an online service that provides laundry pickup and delivery to customers' homes. He also founded Instant Apartment, an internet company that rents out luxury residences the same year. In October 2018, he started Instant Ryde, an online taxi service in his hometown of Calabar, Cross River State, and Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
