The United States has warned all of its citizens to evacuate the Democratic Republic of Congo due to increasing violence stemming from rebel group activities in the nation.
The U.S. Embassy in DRC issued a "security alert" on Monday, urging U.S. citizens in the DRC to leave immediately using commercial transportation.
"In light of the security situation in Kinshasa, the U.S. Embassy will not conduct any visa interviews and is unable to provide routine services to U.S. citizens," the statement indicated.
This alert follows the capture of Goma, the largest city in North Kivu province, by the Rwanda-backed rebel group M23.
In recent weeks, more than 700 people have died and thousands have been displaced as clashes occur between M23 rebels and Congolese soldiers.
