The apex Igbo sociopolitical organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has raised serious allegations, claiming that two Southeast governors, senators, and Igbo leaders are actively working to obstruct the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). According to Ohanaeze, these individuals are purportedly pushing for Kanu's transfer to Kuje Prisons instead of securing his release, a move allegedly motivated by the upcoming Anambra governorship elections.
Expressing concern over what they see as obstructionist tactics, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has issued a stern warning, threatening to publicly disclose the identities of the implicated individuals and groups if their activities persist and impede Kanu's release scheduled for December 15, 2023.
Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, voiced the organization's dismay, pointing out that among these groups are leaders of Biafra agitators who, in their pursuit of personal gains and quick fame, have resorted to criminalizing the Biafra struggle through hysteria and violence.
A statement by Isiguzoro reads partly: “Additionally, political elites, including two Southeast governors, senators, and Igbo leaders, are working behind the scenes to ensure that Nnamdi Kanu is only transferred to Kuje Prison instead of being released outright, citing the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial elections.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo passionately calls on President Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu by dropping all charges against him and allowing him to immediately return to the United Kingdom after his release.”
