Two B’Haram Explosive Experts Surrender In Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State
Two Boko Haram experts in improvised explosive devices, have surrendered themselves to the military's Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), at Monguno, Borno State
They are Abubakar Mohammed (alias Garba), 19, and Bana Modu, 13.
The MNJTF spokesman, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, said in a statement on Tuesday that "this marks a notable success in the ongoing campaign to dismantle Boko Haram in the region."
The MNJTF conducts the terror campaign in the northeastern region of the Lake Chad Basin and has its headquarters in Ndjamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad.
“During a preliminary investigation, Mohammed and Modu revealed they had been ordered to plant IEDs along roads at Doron Baga and Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa Local Government of Borno State.
“Instead of carrying out their mission, they decided to abandon their tasks, escaped with the IEDs and surrender to the MNJTF,” Abdullahi said.
On what could be the driving force for surrendering to the troops, the MNJTF spokesman said, “Their decision was influenced by the MNJTF recently-concluded Operation NASHRUL SALAM, a non-kinetic operation and sector’s personal engagement strategy with relevant sources, showcasing the effectiveness of psychological operations in the fight against terrorism.”
Items recovered from the duo, included two IEDs, two mobile phones, and a sum of N53,000.
The development came as the troops of Operation Lake Sanity III, under Operation Hadin Kai Theatre Command, Maiduguri, destroyed an ISWAP terrorists’ bread.
Intelligence sources disclosed to a counter-insurgency expert on Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama, that the combined troops of 199 Special Forces Battalion, in conjunction with Hybrid Forces and Civilian JTF, during its exploitation into the terrorists’ enclave, discovered and destroyed the bakery on Monday.
