The President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo, reiterated that the ideal minimum wage for workers in Nigeria should remain at N250,000, as the Organised Labour continues to push for this benchmark.
Osifo also mentioned that discussions are ongoing between the TUC, NLC, and the Federal Government to reach an agreement on the minimum wage.
These remarks were made during the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Women Commission maiden Annual Convention in Abuja, with the theme, ‘The Dynamic Woman: Navigating Challenges in a Constantly Evolving World.’
However, the process of determining a new national minimum wage has been temporarily halted following President Bola Tinubu's decision to consult with stakeholders before sending the bill to the National Assembly.
While the Federal Government and Organised Private Sector have agreed on N62,000 as the new minimum wage, labour is steadfast in their demand for N250,000.
Osifo emphasized that negotiations on the new minimum wage are still ongoing and both labour and the government are working to finalize the matter.
He assured that attention is being given to the minimum wage issue and that the President is seeking further consultations before submitting it to the National Assembly.
