A truck has reportedly claimed the lives of three people in Jos, the capital of Plateau state as it swayed off an overhead bridge.
Eyewitnesses gathered at the scene, noted that the tragedy struck in the wee hours on Tuesday morning between 4 am and 5 am along Zaria Road.
According to reports, the victims were trapped beneath the wreckage of the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries, while three others sustained injuries. Additionally, the crash claimed the lives of approximately 45 cows that were being transported in the truck.
An eyewitness, Timothy Garuba, a resident of the area, described how the truck lost control while ascending the flyover bridge within the Gada Biu/Kabong community.
Garuba claimed that a truck driver lost control on the Kabong fly-over bridge in Jos North Local Government Area early this morning.
He added that the truck was carrying cows and passengers around 4:30 am when it fell off the bridge with passengers and some cows trapped under it.
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau State, Peter Langsan also confirmed the tragic outcome, reporting that the deceased and injured individuals had been transported to the hospital for further assistance.
Langsan emphasized the need for caution on the roads, attributing the accident to speeding and warning against overloading vehicles meant for transportation of goods with passengers.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving and the importance of adhering to safety regulations on the nation's roads. Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution and prioritize safety to prevent further loss of life.
