Tribunal Sacks Kaduna Gov, Declares Election Inconclusive

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna has declared the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna State inconclusive. Photo: Punch[/caption] In a split decision of 2:1, the tribunal ruled that the election was inconclusive and ordered a supplementary election to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within 90 days. This decision comes in response to a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru, challenging the election of Uba Sani as the Governor of Kaduna State due to alleged irregularities and electoral fraud, Punch reports. The supplementary election will involve 24 polling units in seven wards of four local governments with 16,300 registered voters. Earlier, the election petition tribunal sitting in Lokoja declared Natasha Akpoti as the winner of the February 25 Kogi Central Senatorial election. The tribunal chairman, Justice K.A. Orjiako, ruled on Wednesday, stating that Uduaghan scored 54,064 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sadiku-Ohere, who polled 51,291 votes. Additionally, the tribunal ordered Sadiku-Ohere, who is of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to pay Akpoti-Uduaghan N500,000 for the cost of the petition. Details soon…
