At least nine individuals have been confirmed deceased, while three others suffered various injuries following a tragic vehicle accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
Rocketparrot News learnt that the incident, involving a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number UYY 165 ZY and a truck marked DKA 244 XC, occurred around 5:30 a.m., leading to temporary traffic disruptions on this heavily traveled route.
It was further gathered that the Hiace driver, who was driving at high speed, lost control and crashed into a stationary truck, resulting in the unfortunate incident.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, verified this information through a statement to the press on Monday. According to Okpe, the survivors were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, while the deceased were placed in Idera Morgue in Sagamu.
She stated, “A total of 13 individuals were involved, consisting of 10 male adults and three female adults. Nine were confirmed dead (six males and three females), and three sustained injuries.”
“The probable causes of this fatal accident were excessive speed and fatigue, which resulted in a loss of control and caused the driver to collide with a stationary truck.” While expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, Sector Commander Fasakin Akinwumi condemned the reckless actions of drivers who disregard speed limits and neglect to take the required 15-minute breaks after driving for four hours.
