The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has apprehended one Onu Simeon in connection with a deadly altercation that resulted in the death of Ifeanyi Chukwu at Utako Market, Abuja.
This was confirmed by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, in a statement released on Wednesday.
She noted that the command had received a distress call about a brawl occurring at Utako Market.
According to her account, police officers quickly arrived at the location, where they discovered Ifeanyi Chukwu unconscious on the ground.
The victim was rushed by the police to the NNPC Hospital in Utako, but an attending doctor confirmed his death upon arrival.
“Initial investigations indicated that Onu Simeon, residing in Anguwan Biggy, Jabi Daki Biyu, and Ifeanyi Chukwu from Kuchigoro, Lugbe, had previously been arguing over a spot to exhibit their products for sale.
The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which Ifeanyi Chukwu abruptly collapsed and became unconscious.
His body has been taken to a general hospital for further investigation, while Onu Simeon remains in police custody as inquiries continue.
Additional updates will be provided in due course,” the statement concluded.
