President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between Nigeria's law enforcement agencies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States in combating cybercrime, terrorism, and related offenses.
The FBI is the primary federal law enforcement agency and domestic intelligence service of the United States.
During a meeting at the State House, President Tinubu discussed this matter with FBI Director Christopher Asher Wray.
The meeting was attended by top security officials including the National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Chief of Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
President Tinubu acknowledged the significance of the FBI Director's visit to Nigeria, recognizing it as a testament to the enduring partnership between Nigeria and the United States in combating financial crimes and terrorism.
He expressed that collaboration is essential for effectively addressing local and global criminal activities.
The President's spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that President Tinubu remarked, "Your visit conveys the importance of Nigeria and Nigerian partnership in the work of America’s law enforcement institutions and vice-versa. For us, it is recognition of what stage we are at, who we are, and the level of interest both countries share in eliminating crimes locally and globally."
President Tinubu emphasized that collaboration is crucial in achieving the goal of eliminating crimes.
