Tinubu terminates meeting with GAC over Obasa's reinstatement

Mudashiru Obasa

President Bola Tinubu unexpectedly terminated a meeting with members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) due to delays in executing his directive to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rocketparrot News Learnt.

Rocketparrot News  gathered that the meeting was called off because Tinubu was informed beforehand that the council members were unable to agree on his order regarding Obasa's reinstatement. Consequently, he instructed them to return and implement his order.

“The president was informed prior to the meeting that the council members had not reached a consensus on his directive for the Lagos Assembly to reinstate Obasa, so he canceled the meeting,” the sources conveyed. “He instructed them to return and execute his order.”

Rocketparrot News had earlier reported that the auxiliary council had overlooked  Tinubu's command to reinstate Obasa, proposing instead that he be offered a senatorial ticket for the 2027 election in exchange for relinquishing the speakership following a meeting in Lagos the previous Monday.

The GAC also pledged to dismiss Obasa’s replacement, Lasbat Meranda, and appoint a neutral individual if Obasa accepted the council’s proposal.

With Tinubu being the ultimate authority in Lagos political matters, some members of the GAC traveled to Abuja after their Lagos meeting on Tuesday to update Tinubu on the developments.

However, they waited for hours before learning that the president had no interest in meeting them, and they were promptly sent back to Lagos to enforce Tinubu’s instruction for the lawmakers to reinstate Obasa.

“The council members from Lagos waited for hours for the president before they were told that Tinubu indicated he had no interest in meeting with them as they were not there to carry out his order,” the sources reported.

They added,President directed the attendees to return to Lagos immediately and reinstate Obasa as the speaker because his decision is final.”
