ABUJA, Nigeria—President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, as Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media. The announcement, made Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, includes three new directors-general for major federal agencies, showcasing a strategic mix of political alliances and professional expertise.
Bwala’s appointment marks a significant political shift. A lawyer and seasoned public affairs analyst, Bwala was a vocal critic of Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC). His decision to back Tinubu earlier this year, citing a willingness to serve under the administration, underscores a recalibration of political loyalties.
In a move aimed at revitalizing federal agencies, Tinubu named Olawale Olopade as Director-General of the National Sports Commission. Olopade, a former Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, has extensive experience in sports management, including chairing the 2024 National Sports Festival organizing committee.
Dr. Abisoye Fagade, a veteran marketing communications strategist and founder of Sodium Brand Solutions, will lead the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism. Meanwhile, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, previously Director of Research and Training at the Bureau of Public Procurement, has been promoted to Director-General of the bureau.
These appointments reflect Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance, blending political diversity with technical acumen. By tapping Bwala, a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member, Tinubu signals a willingness to prioritize competence over party lines. The appointments are expected to strengthen the administration’s capacity to tackle pressing national issues.
“The president remains focused on fostering unity and driving excellence across key sectors,” Onanuga said in the statement. Punch and NigerianEye highlighted Tinubu’s strategic selection process, emphasizing continuity and reform.
As Tinubu solidifies his team, public anticipation mounts regarding the administration’s approach to Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
