ABUJA, Nigeria - Minister Nyesom Wike and former Governor Simi Fubara have decided to set aside their differences.
This agreement came after a meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu on Thursday night in Abuja.
Participants at the meeting were urged to discuss the details for implementing the arrangement, which would involve reinstating Fubara as the governor of Rivers State.
Fubara had been suspended from his position in March by Tinubu, who believed that the prevailing political turmoil in the state could only be managed by dismantling the current constitutional framework.
The president’s decision faced significant backlash after a military leader was appointed to manage the affairs of the resource-rich state.
The National Assembly approved the emergency declaration for a period of six months, and the recent agreement could potentially shorten the tenure of the administrator, Ibok Ekwe Ibas.
