ABUJA, Nigeria - President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to reclaiming ungoverned regions, especially forests, from terrorists and other criminal groups across the nation.
Tinubu mentioned that advanced surveillance and technology will be utilized to tackle kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism.
The President made this commitment while addressing elders and leaders from Katsina State during a state dinner at the Government House on Friday night.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed details of the engagement in a statement released on Saturday.
The President stated, “Regarding the security concerns raised by former governor Aminu Bello Masari this evening, I concur that security is a pressing issue for the nation. I spoke to the armed forces earlier today and reassured them that we will do everything possible to combat terrorism and banditry. We plan to invest more in technology and take control of the forests. Security is a national concern, extending beyond local or regional levels. For genuine investment in Nigeria, we must tackle security challenges. Investment is hesitant and will not flourish where banditry and terrorism exist. We will work to resolve the issue together with the states and local governments.”
He pointed out positive signs of Nigeria’s economic recovery, linking recent growth indicators to bold policy choices.
The President indicated that the Federal Government would contemplate upgrading the airport in Katsina State to generate employment and boost the economy.
Tinubu also assured that those affected by terrorism would receive assistance to rebuild their lives. In his remarks, Governor Radda noted that the state had created a security outfit to gather and provide intelligence.
He shared that the proposed airport expansion, which includes a cargo terminal, passenger terminal, and fire truck, would create 2,700 direct jobs and cost N54 billion.
Masari expressed gratitude to the President for appointing two ministers from the state to the Federal Executive Council.
On his support for the President’s bid for the 2023 elections, he remarked, “You possess the political will and courage to confront the challenges facing this nation.
The issue with humans is that resistance arises when new changes and a new social order emerge. If you lack strength and determination, you will falter, and the problem will persist.”
