President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) Kemi Nanna Nandap as the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The appointment would be effective from March 1, 2024.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
Nandap succeeds Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, whose tenure expires on February 29, 2024. Prior to her appointment as Comptroller-General, Nandap served as the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of the Migration Directorate of the Service.
In the statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence that Nandap would deepen the ongoing reforms in the service and establish a robust mechanism for efficient and dedicated service delivery to Nigerians. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the nation’s security through proactive and effective border security and migration management.
Nandap's appointment comes at a crucial time when border security and migration management are key issues for Nigeria. Her experience and leadership are expected to contribute significantly to addressing these challenges and enhancing the overall performance of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The head of the department was known as the Director of Immigration but it was later changed to the Comptroller-General of NIS. The change came after some structural reforms and government white paper in October, 1922 which gave the NIS a para-military status. The CG is expected to oversee the activities of the immigration service all over the nation. She will supervise and manage the operations of the immigration service.
The Service has come a long way in its march towards reformation and restructuring to be better positioned for the implementation of modern migration management.
