President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to host the Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Falcons secured their 10th continental championship over the weekend by defeating the host nation, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses, in an exciting final in Rabat, Morocco.
This reception at the Presidential Villa is part of a series of official events honoring the team’s impressive achievement, which has once again enhanced Nigeria’s reputation in African women’s football.
Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, along with several federal ministers, are present at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to welcome the team.
The return of the Falcons has ignited celebrations across the nation, with many Nigerians acknowledging the team’s resilience, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament. Additionally, four stars from the Super Falcons—Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie—have been recognized in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best XI following Nigeria's impressive performance in claiming their 10th continental title.
The Confederation of African Football Women announced the tournament's top performers via their official X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, stating, "The stars who shined the brightest. Meet your Best XI of the tournament," CAF Women posted. Ajibade, a key player throughout the competition, was honored as the Player of the Tournament.
The Atletico Madrid forward was also awarded Woman of the Match in three of Nigeria’s six matches, showcasing her leadership and offensive skills.
Okoronkwo also made a significant impact, contributing two goals and four assists, proving essential to Nigeria’s championship run.
Nnadozie earned the title of Best Goalkeeper after achieving four clean sheets, establishing herself as one of the continent's most reliable goalkeepers.
Defender Alozie, who participated in every minute of Nigeria’s journey, was also selected for the list, with her dramatic late winning goal against South Africa in the semi-final standing out as one of the tournament’s highlights.
