ABUJA, Nigeria - President Bola Tinubu has detailed his administration's plans to integrate modern advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance Nigeria's digital infrastructure, preparing the workforce with necessary digital competencies for the future.

He stated that his government will advocate for AI-driven research and innovation, promote greater cloud adoption across different sectors, and position Nigeria as a significant participant in the global digital economy.

Tinubu made this commitment during a meeting with the Google team in Paris on Wednesday, accompanied by Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani. During discussions with Google Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai, he commended the company for its dedication to advancing Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation in Nigeria.

The Google team engaged in productive dialogue with President Tinubu on establishing a strategic partnership aimed at facilitating Nigeria’s progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.

According to the presidency, this collaboration is envisioned to establish Nigeria as a major hub for technology and innovation, utilizing AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure to drive economic growth and boost global competitiveness.

The president indicated to the Google representatives that this partnership aligns perfectly with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focused on economic diversification through industrialization, technology, and innovation.

He assured that the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will oversee strategic initiatives, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will coordinate efforts alongside the private sector for widespread and impactful outcomes.

In his remarks, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated the company's commitment to aiding Nigeria's digital transformation, expressing, “Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa.

Google is eager to continue collaborating with the Nigerian government to develop an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic progress.”

Concerning the engagement with the president, Dr. Bosun Tijani emphasized that the partnership between Nigeria and Google presents a crucial opportunity to fast-track Nigeria's technological development and fortify its digital economy.

He further affirmed Nigeria's commitment to ensuring that AI and digital transformation yield real benefits for businesses and citizens across the nation.

Tinubu recognized Nigeria's potential as an emerging global technology hub and reiterated his resolve to create a conducive business environment that draws strategic investments from leading tech companies.

He expressed gratitude for Google's ongoing participation in Nigeria's digital transformation and its role in creating new opportunities for businesses and young talents.

The Nigerian delegation at the summit indicated that discussions will persist as both parties aim to deepen their collaboration and accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, paving the way for sustainable economic development.
