President Bola Tinubu has announced a series of initiatives to support Nigerian students
The announcement today through the Special Adviser to the President, Dele Alake, the Special Adviser.
He announced the allocation of buses to student bodies in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
The move is aimed at alleviating the impact of fuel subsidy removal on higher institution students, who have been struggling to afford transportation costs.
Aside from providing buses, President Tinubu has also directed the authorities in all Federal Institutions of higher learning to avoid an arbitrary increase in sundry fees payable and where possible defer further increases so that parents and students don’t face too many difficulties.
To further support students, President Tinubu has approved the removal of all restrictions on student loans, making them accessible to any student or household in need of financial assistance.
This move aims to support students and their families in overcoming economic challenges and pursuing their educational goals.
In addition to these initiatives, President Tinubu has also ordered the release of more than 200,000 Metric Tonnes of grains to families across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This is to ensure that vulnerable students also benefit from conditional cash transfers and food distribution initiatives.
President Tinubu's announcement comes at a time when Nigerian students are facing a number of challenges, including the rising cost of living, the ongoing fuel subsidy removal, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
