ABUJA,NIgeria - Nigeria has achieved a significant milestone in aviation education as President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the country's first private aeronautic university, the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM).
The announcement was made by Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, March 3, 2025.
IBUAM was one of the ten universities approved during the session held at the State House.
This decision has led to widespread excitement, especially among young Nigerians who have benefited from the philanthropic efforts of Comrade Isaac Balami, the university’s founder.
The approval had been awaited for four years before it finally received the presidential endorsement.
Balami, who is also the founder of 7Star Global Hangar and Airlines, characterized this moment as a significant advancement for Nigeria’s aviation sector.
“I am pleased to be the originator of such an ambitious initiative that not only seeks to elevate Nigeria's status in global aviation but also aims at nurturing the next generation of trustworthy Nigerian leaders,” he stated.
In addition to the university, Balami is actively involved in aviation training through the Isaac Balami Foundation, which is currently providing training to 160 young Nigerians across various aviation disciplines.
He stressed that his initiatives are motivated by a profound love for Nigeria and a dedication to its advancement.
With the launching of IBUAM, experts believe that Nigeria is on the verge of considerable progress in aeronautical education, potentially establishing the country as an aviation center in Africa.
