President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 556 Nigerians into the Governing Council of 31 tertiary institutions either as Chairman or member.
Tinubu approved the reconstitution of the Governing Councils and Boards of the Federal Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
The President’s action was contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Nnamdi Mbaeri, wherein he said the approval was given for the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Among the beneficiaries is Mohammed Santuraki, who has been appointed as the Pro-chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna in Niger State.
Other personalities appointed chairman of institutions include: Ndoma Egba, Lola Fibisola, Baba Jidda, Olu Aderounmu, Nasiru Gawuna, Adamu Ahmed, Lydia Bello, Isa Yuguda, Greg Mbadiwe, and Siyan Oyefeso, among others.
Santuraki, a seasoned tertiary education administrator, had served in the same position at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University and the Niger State University.
Santuraki’s appointment has been hailed by many stakeholders in the country’s education sector who lauded it as a “round peg in a round hole.”
The Vice Chancellor of the Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Prof. Muhammad Paiko, wrote: “This is sending my hearty congratulations for an appointment well deserved and long overdue.”
For Habibu Panti, he wrote, “I am positive that your appointment is a tribute to your experience, commitment to the development of higher education in Niger State and Nigeria. Words are insufficient to express my joy, but congratulations, sir.”
