With the release of his new album "Timeless," Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, alias Davido, broke an African record on the US iTunes Albums Chart.
This is because the album peaked at the top of the charts on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, becoming the first African album to do so in the largest music market in the world.
Remember that on March 31, 2023, Nigerian artists Asake, Fave, The Cavemen, DMW's newest additions Morravey and Logos Olori, Grammy Award-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, British rapper Skepta, South African music producer/DJ Musa Keys, Jamaican dancehall/reggae singer Dexta Daps, and South African rapper Focalistic made guest appearances on Davido's fourth studio album, "Timeless."
Davido's album "Timeless" broke numerous milestones despite a partial leak, including the highest charting album by an African performer on US Apple Music (peaked at Number 2) and the highest album first-day streams in Audiomack history.
The 17-track album also made history by debuting all of its songs in the top 100 of the United Kingdom's Apple Music top songs list, making it the first and only afrobeats album to do so.
Global streaming juggernaut Spotify reported that Nigeria, the UK, Canada, and France are the countries where Davido's music is most frequently played after the album's release.
