TikTok launches redesigned subscription monetization for creators

TikTok announced on Monday the rollout of its revamped “Subscription” monetization feature to eligible creators in select regions, including Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, the U.K., Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S.

The platform plans to expand this offering to additional markets in the coming weeks.

This launch follows TikTok’s announcement in March that it would rebrand its LIVE Subscription tool to “Subscription” and extend it to creators beyond live-streaming.

The Subscription feature positions TikTok as a competitor to platforms like Patreon, allowing creators to offer exclusive content to paying subscribers. It also competes with Instagram Subscriptions and YouTube’s channel memberships, all aimed at helping creators monetize their content through enhanced engagement with fans.

With this update, creators can now provide subscribers with exclusive access to videos, live streams, and notes visible only to paying users. Creators can offer three different subscription tiers, each with distinct perks available for a monthly fee.

Subscribers will enjoy benefits such as unique stickers for use during live sessions, badges displayed next to their names in comments and profiles, and access to exclusive communication channels like Sub Space, a dedicated area for creators to interact with their subscribers.

Additionally, creators can design custom perks tailored to their community, selecting from a range of options provided by TikTok. These perks may include performance requests, Discord roles, shout-outs, behind-the-scenes content, and even collaborative gaming opportunities.

To qualify for the Subscription feature, creators must be at least 18 years old, have a minimum of 10,000 followers, and achieve 100,000 video views within the past month, with their accounts in good standing.
