*Party members suspended for alleged anti-party activities
Some hired thugs yesterday invaded and disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) event (press briefing) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
The attack left some journalists injured as well as party chieftains.
Among the injured were Mr. Tife Owolabi, Chairman of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council and Jacobson Park of People’s FM 93.1.
The attackers destroyed chairs and assaulted those present with rods, leaving Owolabi bleeding from his forehead and left hand.
Attendees fled the venue, and the briefing was temporarily suspended until security forces, including Operation Doo Akpo, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Police, stormed the scene at Da Crib Hotel; the venue of the briefing.
With the security forces presence, the event was brought to normalcy with the Chairman of APC Sagbama, Jonah Abeke, announcing an indefinite suspension of seven members for alleged anti-party activities, in line with ongoing suspensions within the party.
Those suspended included Peres Peretu, Matthew Karimo, Major Oputa, Tangi Samuel, King Bolouyi Sufadoh, Goodluck Ebomu, and Youdio-gwei Benjamin.
Abeke said: “In the 2023 National Assembly, Presidential and governirship election in Bayelsa State, they openly worked for Governor Douye Diri and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. They made no pretences about their anti-party activities.
“It is on this note that we, the executives of the Sagbama APC hereby suspend them indefinitely from the party.
“Their suspension is hereby transmitted to the State Executive Committee of our party for ratification.”
Abeke also condemned strongly the attack on the journalists assigned to cover the briefing.
