Charles Oputa, a well-known performer and social activist from Nigeria who goes by the stage name Charly Boy, has backed President Bola Tinubu's decision to eliminate gasoline subsidies.
Following the termination of the subsidy, there has been a widespread outcry about the skyrocketing new pump price of petroleum goods.
In many regions of the nation, the price of a liter of Petroleum Motor Spirit, PMS, is presently above N500.
In response to the controversy over the move, Charly Boy, a fervent fan of Peter Obi, the Labour Party's nominee for president in the most recent election, applauded the removal and asserted that there is no better time than this.
The musician expressed his opinion on the conflict in a tweet on his Twitter account, saying that it goes beyond backing his favored candidate and focuses on suspected criminal elements that are causing problems for the nation's economy.
He said, "Listen and be educated. On the subsidy reduction, Okonjo Iweala bares all. There is only one time, and that time is right NOW.
"My fellow Nigerians, Obi actually isn't the issue here. It concerns the thieves who continue to plunder our nation's wealth, leaving us destitute and helpless."
