Ten Hag Confident Of Overcoming Early-Season Struggles

POSTED ON October 3, 2023 •   Sports      BY Segun Adewole
Manchester United's manager, Erik ten Hag, has affirmed his belief that the Red Devils will navigate their way out of their early-season challenges, even as questions arise regarding his job security. Manchester United's recent performance has raised concerns, with the club losing six of their last nine matches, including a 3-2 home defeat to Galatasaray on Tuesday. This loss marked a historic first for the English giants as they suffered consecutive defeats in the opening two games of the Champions League group stage. In addition to their European woes, Manchester United has also encountered a difficult start to their Premier League campaign, losing four of their first seven matches, which constitutes their worst-ever beginning to a Premier League season. Ten Hag, who enjoyed a successful debut season at Old Trafford, led the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League, thereby securing a return to the Champions League. He also ended the club's six-year trophy drought by capturing the League Cup. "Last season went brilliant, terrific, more than we could expect," said the former Ajax boss. "Also when we went into this project we knew there would be gaps. In this moment we are in a very difficult period as everyone can see but we (will) come out together. "We are fighting together, we stick together, we are behind each other. Me, the directors, the team all together we will fight. This is not us. We know we have to do better and in togetherness we will come out (of this situation)." Ten Hag went ahead to defend his underfire goalkeeper, Andre Onana. He said, "Andre was in one semi-final of the Champions League and last season he was in the final of the Champions League, so yes he has the capabilities to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. "He's showed that and he will do. We have already seen in games his great capabilities and personality. When he makes mistakes, he will bounce back."
