Temilade Openiyi, a Grammy-winning Nigerian singer better known by her stage name Temz, has surpassed American female music icons to set a new record on the Billboard list.
The Nigerian accomplished the extraordinary accomplishment when her song "Free Mind" set the record for the longest run at the top of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart by a female artist.
This week, the song remained at the top of the charts, giving it a cumulative run of 17 weeks at the top, a record for a female artist.
Tems became the first female solo artist from Nigeria to emerge as a leader on the Billboard Hot 100 main chart when the song made its debut there last year.
The song "Free Mind," off Tems' debut Extended Play (EP), has received millions of plays on the country's top digital streaming services.
