OGUN, Nigeria- The suspended Olorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, was granted bail on Tuesday after being arraigned in court for assaulting an elderly individual, Oloye Areola Abraham, in Ogun State.
Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed in a statement that the case has been scheduled for a further hearing on March 3, 2025.
Adejobi stated, “Kabiyesi Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, who assaulted an elderly man in a viral video in Ifo Ogun State, faced charges today February 4, 2025, on three counts: conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to incite a breach of peace.”
He added, “He has been granted bail while the case has been postponed to 06/03/2025. The police remain committed to upholding the law and the core principles of our esteemed profession.”
In the controversial viral video, the traditional ruler, who claimed to have authority over the police, was seen physically assaulting the elderly man, who was heard expressing his ill health while facing threats of violence from the monarch.
Expressing their dismay at the monarch's behavior, the Ogun State Government suspended him for six months due to "uncivil conduct."
