Supreme Court Reveals Damage Suffered After Fire Incident

Following the morning fire outbreak at the Supreme Court complex, Dr. Festus Akande, the court's spokesperson, has provided clarification that only one chamber within the building was affected. The incident occurred in the Three Arms Zone of Abuja. The Supreme Court's Fire Service Department successfully extinguished the fire, and Akande addressed reporters, shedding light on the situation. He explained that the fire broke out between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. while staff were already present in the office. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, Akande indicated that it appears to have originated from an electrical fault. However, further inquiries are ongoing to determine the precise circumstances. Akande commended the swift response of the Supreme Court staff in tackling the fire. They effectively utilized the fire extinguishers installed on all the floors of the court, managing to extinguish the flames even before the arrival of the external fire service. The entire operation took less than an hour. In an effort to reassure the public, Akande emphasized that the fire incident would not disrupt any of the Supreme Court's proceedings. He clarified, "This incident occurred in a chamber that is equipped with computers and other equipment, as well as a functional library being used by any justice that occupies such a chamber. Only books, stationery, and computer equipment were affected. Even the books are replaceable. We also have an e-library, so the books are still available in soft copies." The prompt and effective response of the Supreme Court staff, along with the limited scope of the damage, has ensured that the court's vital functions remain unaffected by the incident.
