The lawmakers in the six South-Western states have called for increased support for the South-West Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, to enhance the region's safety.
The group also emphasized the need for stakeholders to avoid perceiving the Amotekun Corps as a political tool in the hands of regional politicians.
It read in part, ” The SLRIC meeting focused on several key areas, notably the harmonization of standing orders across the South-West region. This critical reform aims to streamline legislative procedures and ensure that all Houses of Assembly in the South-West are aligned, fostering seamless governance and legislative efficiency.
“One of the significant topics of discussion was the state of security in the region. We emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the security architecture across the South-West. Our discussions have led to the formulation of strategies to bolster our region’s security. Our collective responsibility is to ensure that these plans are swiftly and effectively implemented.”
The lawmakers also encouraged state governments in the region to create policies and partnerships that attract investments and drive economic growth.
"The South-West's future lies not only in security and governance, but also in unleashing its immense economic potential. Let us strive to cultivate an environment where businesses can flourish, generating employment and prosperity for our people."
