Nigerian-South African Model Chidimma Adetshina faces the possibility of losing her national documents after she missed the deadline set by the South African government to provide justifications for why her identification documents shouldn't be revoked.
After they missed the deadline, the government announced on October 29, 2024, that it was canceling Adetshina and her mother's identification documents.
Tommy Makhode, the director general of home affairs, made this announcement during Tuesday's parliamentary committee.
“We have not received any response, and therefore the department will be proceeding with the withdrawal of those documents in line with the Identification Act,” Makhode said.
Recall that Adetshina, who has a Nigerian father, withdrew from the Miss South Africa beauty pageant in August 2024 after receiving hostility from South Africans over claims she was not a South African.
Because of the gravity of the allegations, an official investigation into her citizenship and the possibility that her mother stole the identity of a South African woman was initiated.
After withdrawing from the Miss South Africa pageant, the Silverbird Group, which organizes the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, invited Chidimma to compete, and she accepted, eventually winning the title.
Adetshina and her mother were then given until Monday, October 29, 2024, to present reasons their national ID certificates should not be canceled..
