Soludo Names Anambra Airport After Chinua Achebe

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has officially renamed the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport to the Chinua Achebe International Passenger and Cargo Airport. This significant announcement was made through a widely circulated WhatsApp message by Mazi Ejimofor, Governor Soludo's New Media Aide. The decision to rename the airport, one of the key legacies of former Governor Chief Willie Obiano's administration, has sparked discussions and contrasting opinions among supporters of the two governors. During the Anambra Investment Summit in September 2023, Governor Soludo had hinted at the possibility of renaming the Anambra International Convention Centre in Awka, another notable achievement from Governor Obiano's tenure. However, he revealed that he had not yet discussed this proposal with his predecessor. Reports from sources familiar with the conversation between Governor Soludo and Governor Obiano suggest that the latter declined the offer to rename the convention center after himself. Many have argued that naming the airport in honor of Governor Obiano might have been a more fitting tribute. Late Professor Achebe, a native of Ogidi in Anambra State, is renowned as one of the state's most distinguished figures.
