Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed sympathy to market vendors at Onitsha's major market following the fire that destroyed their stores.
On Wednesday, Soludo expressed his condolences in a statement released by his press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.
The Onitsha main market Police Station and shops where fabrics are sold were housed in a two-story building that was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The early morning fire that resulted in the destruction of products and property valued in the millions of naira saddened the governor.
"I want to underline the necessity for everyone to exercise increased caution in order to prevent the occurrence of fire incidents in marketplaces, offices, and even our homes.
"I admire the efforts of the Firefighters and other security authorities that tried to limit the inferno."
Soludo gave the assurance that the government will look into the situation to try to stop it from happening again. (NAN)
